I do my best work with other people — and often with people outside my own field. Some of the work I’m proudest of started with an unsolicited email asking the question I hadn’t thought to ask.
Where I’m looking to collaborate
Cross-field problems. The agenda I care most about right now is closing the loop between fundamental wave physics and the equations we actually deploy — making model assumptions explicit, putting rigorous uncertainty quantification on retrieved values, and letting validation data improve the equations themselves. This needs physics, hydrology, statistics, and formal verification working together. The full version is on the Research page.
Mission and algorithm work. L-band soil moisture (SMAP, NISAR), soil moisture and vegetation from reflected GNSS signals (CYGNSS), seasonal snow from InSAR, and landscape freeze–thaw. An overview is on the Missions page.
Forward-model and physics collaborations. First-principles scattering models for snow and rough, vegetated ground — DMRT / bicontinuous media and NMM3D. See Projects.
Proposals and co-investigation
I’m open to co-investigator roles and joint proposals where the wave-physics backbone is central to getting the measurement right. If you’re putting together a proposal that touches soil moisture, snow, freeze–thaw, or the electromagnetics underneath them, get in touch early.
